Fabergé Eggs and Other Russian Gems in Hong Kong, BlouinArtInfo, 31.01.2013

31.01.2013

A collection of imperial Russian crafts, featuring the jeweled eggs of Peter Carl Fabergé (1846–1920), is coming to Hong Kong. On loan from the Moscow Kremlin Museums and the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of Russia, the exhibit includes more than 200 items tracing the history of craftsmanship in the former Russian empire. Works by Fabergé are the highlight of the show, particularly his Easter eggs embellished with precious stones. A master jeweler and goldsmith, Fabergé was a leading figure in the rise of Russian jewelry craftsmanship in the late 19th century.

Four Fabergé eggs feature in the exhibit. The Trans-Siberian Train Easter Egg, the Moscow Kremlin Easter Egg, which is the tallest of all the imperial Fabergé creations, the Memory of Azov Easter Egg from 1891, and the unfinished Constellation Tsarevich Easter Egg. Other rare religious artworks, ornaments, and jewelry by Russian craftsman in the 1800s-1900s are also on display, representing the flourishing period of goldsmithery in Russia.
