Baltic – Hong Kong Trade Association Founded in Riga

The Association is registered in accordance with the legislation of Republic of Latvia as a non-profit-making organization. The principal task of the Association is development of commercial and economic relations between the Baltic countries and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. BHKTA is established at the initiative and with the support of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Russia – Hong Kong Business Association (RHKBA). The Chairman of the Baltic-Hong Kong Trade Association’s Board is Deputy of Seym of Latvia, the Chairman of the Latvian-Chinese group of inter-parliamentary cooperation Sergey Potapkin.

Ivan Polyakov, Chairman of the Russia – Hong Kong Business Association, CEO of the Interstate Corporation for Development sent his letter of congratulations to Sergey Potapkin, Chairman of the Baltic – Hong Kong Trade Association. “I believe, that the founded Association will give new impetus to Latvia’s international integration and entering the global markets. It will further the increase in business activity and it will become an effective platform for cooperation of Baltic entrepreneurs not only with Hong Kong, but also with all the countries embodied in the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide. In our turn, the Russia – Hong Kong Business Association is ready to strengthen our traditional business ties and render comprehensive assistance in establishing and development of the Baltic – Hong Kong Trade Association”, - is particularly said in the message.

BHKTA and RHKBA have agreed to uphold mutual collective membership. Members of the Association get access to the latest information on Hong Kong including a widest array of periodicals and publications; enjoy significant discounts on fees to participate in trade shows and conferences organized by HKTDC, as well as on business matching services; they have free entry to all the trade fairs by HKTDC and free access to the database on the Federation members. The Baltic Association has already established partner relationships with "Invest Hong Kong", the Official Investment Promotion Agency of Hong Kong, the Chinese Embassy in Latvia, and the Chinese Commercial Consul in Latvia.

BHKTA has become the full-fledged member of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide, which was launched in November 2000 with the support of the HKTDC. The Federation’s mission is to promote global co-operation and strengthening the relationships between the associations; to provide a unified global voice that will enhance business and investment opportunities in and through Hong Kong. The Federation is a network of 35 Hong Kong business associations counting more than 11,000 individual business executives and professionals in 24 countries and regions as member associates.
